Prom Makeup Ideas

As the end of the school year approaches there is one more thing for you to look forward to before turning your back on school for the summer. The Formal, Prom or school dance it all means the same thing, a fabulous dress, killer heels and of course the perfect party face.

Prom Queen

It’s not just Kate Middleton who gets to look like a princess, everyone can look like a Prom Queen, Beauty Queen or Princess, as I prefer.

Starting from the base up

This will be a long night filled with dancing and photos so firstly start with a makeup primer to ensure your foundation stays put. I recommend MAC Prep and Prime Skin (£18) this evens out the skin’s complexion taking down redness and removes excess skin oils insuring a beautifully smooth base for your foundation.

If you don’t normally wear foundation this is the one time you might want to consider it as everywhere you turn your bound to see a camera. An affordable beautiful foundation is Revlon Photo Ready foundation (£12.99); its name speaks volumes and, although having an SPF of 20, it will not cause glare or light to bounce off the skin when a flash goes off. It comes in a wide range of colours and, with the added bonus of an SPF, it is a must have product.

Concealer is a girl’s best friend as the excitement will probably cause a sleepless night before the big day! Conceal tiredness and under eye circles with a concealer that has a creamy consistency as this will not cake around the eye area or on blemishes. MAC Select Cover Up (£13.50) concealer is a fantastic product that camouflages redness, blemishes and under-eye circles but, if your on a budget, Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection (£4.19) is a fantastic concealer for less than half the price.

As it will be the beginning of summer, a bronzer will give you a healthy glow and set your hard work so it stays in place. Bourjois Delice de Poudre Bronzing Powder (£6.99) – the one that looks and smells like chocolate – will give you a beautiful natural glow. Finish with Pixi Energy Blush (£14.50) to give a natural flush to the cheeks.

Peep Show

Natural bronze colours look amazing on all skin tones and eye colours L’Oréal Paris Colour Appeal Trio Pro Eye Shadow (£8.19) is affordable and contains 3 shades perfect for a beautiful wearable smokey eye; I love Golden Fidelity (bronze) and Grey Obsession for a darker look (grey). Add some gel eyeliner to add intensity Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Liner (£7.99) is perfect as it’s long lasting. Read our review.

Apply a few layers of mascara, I use Rimmel Volume Flash The MAX Mascara (£6.69) to add volume and length. Finish the eyes with false lashes if desired, Eylure Naturalite False Lashes 116 (£5.19 per pair) give a beautiful natural look.

Get Lippy

The last thing you will want to worry about is whether your lipstick is still in place. So, instead why not use a gloss? A natural nude or a light pink shade will finish the look and keep the focus on your eyes making them stand out. Bourjois Effect 3D Lip Colour (£6.99) comes in beautiful natural shades that will suit everybody.

Now, all that is left to do is to put your party dress on and have fun! And you are sure to be the belle of the ball.
