The sun has finally got its hat on again. With the weather heating up and everyone getting in the holiday mood it’s about time we started to get together our holiday beauty essentials. Here’s a few of the things that I will be packing this year…
Piz Buin, If you have quite sensitive skin, like me, Piz Buin In Sun Allergy lotion (£15.31) soothes any irritations and also keeps skin smooth and hydrated. Keeping it in tip top condition will help protect it from the sun. Soltan Aftersun Soothing Gel with Aloe Vera (£9.99) is another essential. With a non-greasy formula the gel also helps to ease redness and reduce skin peeling after sun exposure. A tip I have is to keep it in the fridge if possible. This makes it extra cooling and soothing on the skin.
I always worry about my luggage allowance when I am packing and on my way to the airport. An extra charge for a heavy case is the last thing I need at the beginning of a holiday, Charles Worthington Sunshine Takeaways (£1.99) won’t weigh you down too much. The travel sized bottles are perfect for a week away and leave you room for even more clothes and shoes. The range includes shampoo, conditioner and a UV protection spray. Each product is enriched with moisturising rice protein and antioxidants from white tea. They are designed to give your sun-soaked hair, intense nourishment while leaving it de-frizzed and silky smooth. The shampoo and conditioners also wash out the sea, sand and chlorine, so you’ll have no traces of beach babe hair when you hit the town at night.
Makeup & Skincare
I try to keep my makeup simple on holiday because it’s easier in the sun and allows my skin to breathe. Start off with some Clarins Hydra Matte Lotion (£23.50) which is really lightweight and gives a moisture balance in the skin. It will help keep your skin matiffyed throughout the day as well.
Next use a tinted moisturiser such as Benefit You Rebel Lite Tinted Moisturiser (23.50). I really prefer tinted moisturiser to foundation on holiday since it even’s out skin tone just as well as foundation yet is much lighter on the skin. It feels like you have nothing on at all and this particular brand also has an SPF 15.
Finish off with a little brown eyeliner on the eyelids as its not as harsh looking as black can be, a slick of mascara and a little lipbalm.
For a sunny, beach holiday it is best to opt for waterproof make-up which you can also where swimming in the sea or pool. Estee Lauder’s Sumptuous Bold Lifting Waterproof mascara (£19) comes in brown or black. YSL’s new Dessin Du Regard – Waterproof Longwear Eye Pencils (£18) come in a range of stunning colours so if you don’t fancy natural brown, try their sea blue, burgundy, green or black. Cherry Carmex (£2.65) is a lovely lip balm containing SPF 15 which will protect your lips from the sun and keep them soft and kissable.
Complete the look with some Barry M nail varnish (£2.99), I love Raspberry for a pop of colour, but there are plenty of colours to choose from in matte, metallic and shimmer finishes. It is hard-wearing and quick-drying so requires no waiting around.
And after you’ve stumbed home at night (because your shoes are hurting your feet so much of course) reach for some Simple Kind to Skin Cleansing Facial Wipes (£3.05) to remove all traces of make up and revive skin after a long day.
Finally, don’t forget to moisturise before bed. Nivea Daily Essentials Rich Regenerating Night Cream (£4.07) will rejuvenate and repair your skin from the day’s assaults whilst hydrating it ready for the next day.
