Models Own Pro nail polishes contain a special formula of vitamin E, designed to promote nail growth, and UV filters for a long lasting flawless salon worthy manicure. The collection consists of 54 limited edition colours. I tried Models Own Pro in Clementine (no.30), a peachy orange colour.
There’s no better feeling then leaving a salon or nail bar with picture perfect nails, but realistically most of us cannot afford to pay a visit to a nail technician every couple of weeks. But fear not because Models Own Pro collection promises to enable you to create salon perfect nails from home. Unfortunately, this not only sounded but turned out to be too good to be true. For a start the shape and size of the lid is too large, making it tricky to hold the brush securely. I also found it very hard to get an even colour, despite applying two coats of the polish. Even after a third coat, and a protective top coat, I was less than happy with the clarity of the colour. I don’t know whether this was because it was a lighter shade than I had expected it to be or just the formula in general. Afterall, there are 54 shades in this collection which all look lovely in their pots so some of them may give a better coverage! And, on a positive, it did give a glossy finish.
The nail polish also started to chip within just 24 hours of applying it, and I would normally expect a good nail polish to last a few days without needing a touch it up. Two days in, and with substantially chipped polish, I gave up and removed what was left of the colour, which was pretty easy to take-off using an acetone free nail polish remover.
With continued use (and if you are prepared to regularly touch-up chips!) I do think that this polish, being enriched with vitamin E, would help improve your nails’ condition.
A square 15ml pot with a white lid.
At £8 per nail varnish it is comparable with other top brands such as Essie and OPI.
Models Own Pro collection is available at selected Boots stores, ASOS.com, and limited department stores.
Overall score 6/10
Unfortunately, I was a little disappointed with Model’s Own new Pro collection. After two coats the colour was transparent and not as attractive on my nails as it was in the pot. And I couldn’t believe it when the varnish chipped within 24 hours of applying it. But the fact that there are 54 shades means that some of the colours are certainly better than others and there is a great range to choose from. However, in future, I personally will be sticking to the brand’s cheaper nail polishes which are easy to apply and near enough chip resistant.
