M.A.C have a selection of primers in their Prep+Prime range for
different skin types and concerns, as well as an eye and a lip primer. I
tried the Prep+Prime Face Protect SPF 50 which is a skin-protecting cream. It should
be applied under makeup to prime the skin for the sun. It is specially
formulated with oil-absorbing powder which helps prevent oil
breakthrough. Worn daily helps guard the skin against discolouration,
premature ageing, dryness and other effects of sun exposure. It is also
suitable for all skin types.
The white liquid primer is silky smooth and absorbs well on the skin.
It has a nice fresh, summery scent – a bit like sun lotion. I have
tried both liquid and powder foundations over the primer and both types
of makeup adhere well to it. Having a combination skin type, I often
get shine in my t-zone after a few hours of wearing makeup, but the
oil-absorbing powder in this product seemed to prevent excess shine from
occurring. In the sun skin can appear more oily as you sweat, but this
primer works to control that, which is particularly beneficial to a
combination/oily skin type. After being out in the sun for a few hours
and using only this primer as my SPF, I am pleased to report that I did
not catch the sun on my face at all. My makeup was also in good
condition after a few hours outside so this primer definitely helps it to stay put.
Price & Packaging
The packaging is in a handy little black tube with white writing. A
hint of iridescent glitter also adds a touch of glamour to it. The large
round lid also doubles up as a stand.
The price at £21 is reasonable for 30ml.
Overall score: 9/10
This is certainly one of the best primers I have tried for outdoor
wear since it is not only helps keep makeup in place but offers
broad-spectrum sun protection making it a hot country/holiday beauty
