L’Oreal have brought out a sizzling collection of their long-wear lip glosses for summer called Fresh. They are Fresh Grenadine, Fresh Tangerine, Fresh Fuchsia, Fresh Cassis and Fresh Lemon Tonic. I tried Fresh Grenadine, Fresh Tangerine and Fresh Cassis.
I’ve always been sceptical about the price you pay for lip glosses. While they may look pretty, it’s not long before your hair is sticking to your pout and a second application is required. Subsequently, a cheap-as-chips version has always retained a firm residence in my handbag just incase I do feel the need to pucker-up and sport a wet-look lip. However, the L’Oreal Glam Shine Fresh 6 Hour lip glosses have converted my pessimistic outlook on the shiny stuff to one of sheer optimism and pure delight. Never before has lip gloss felt so hydrating and looked so glamorous, and not a gloop in sight!
The teardrop shaped applicator is soft and offers enough gloss to coat your lips in one application (although I found that to achieve sufficient coverage, a few coats were necessary). Menthol and Polyol ingredients work to plump your lips and leave a refreshing, tingling sensation; my lips instantly felt capable of Angelina rivalry after the first application.
Often colour intensity is a letdown with lip glosses; they never quite live up to the bright and vivacious colour
that the tube suggests. L’Oreal Glam Shine Fresh 6 Hour is not an exception and offers just a hint of the hue displayed in the tube. Still the colours achieved are gorgeous, natural and certainly fresh for the summer; Fresh grenadine offers a subtle red, Fresh fuscia is a soft pink (pictured above left) and Fresh tangerine (pictured below right) provides a sheer orange.
I would suggest using these glosses on their own for understated daywear or alternatively, combining them with a similar coloured lip-stain for maximum effect and a bolder lip colour during the evening. Although Fresh are meant to give more subtle summer colour, if you prefer something stronger, within the main L’Oreal Glam Shine 6 Hour range there are some full-coverage colours.
With regards to longetivity, wear was good. I wouldn’t agree that the gloss stayed put for the full six hours it claims (and eating or drinking would cut the staying-power even further) but it certainly came close, with my lips looking plumped and primed for atleast four hours.
Overall score: 8/10
Altogether, L’Oreal’s Glam Shine Fresh 6 Hour lip glosses are a product worth the investment. At £8.69 a pop the lip colours don’t come cheap, but by fulfilling (almost) all of its promises I am undoubtedly one happy customer who will be re-adding this item to my monthly shopping list.
