What inspired you to become a nail technician?
I’ve always been lucky with my nails. They are strong and have always grown well so when I was at school I always enjoyed buying quirky nail polishes from Superdrug with my pocket money and making up my own designs. It has always been such a passion of mine.
You have had an amazing career so far; what aspects of your job do you most enjoy?
I love everything about nails and my job in general. I especially enjoy the social aspect of getting to meet and pamper so many different types of people. On shoots I really like the opportunity to let my imagination run wild and create some inspirational nails.
Are there any particular nail trends we should be looking out for this summer?
Pastels are going to be really popular this season. I’m especially loving yellows.
Which are your favorite nail brands?
I use a lot of Essie polishes. They have some great ‘on trend’ colours. Plus the bottles are really pretty and the quality and consistency of the polish is always perfect to paint with.
Which are your favourite hand creams?
I really love the Nivea Age defying Q10 hand cream. This nourishing cream actively works to keep hands looking young. In addition, UVA/UVB filters help prevent age spots developing.
What products would you recommend for an at-home manicure?
Cuticle oil is a must have for your nail kit. It will moisturise your natural nails to encourage healthy nail growth and stop splitting and breakages.
Do you prefer gel or acrylic false nails and why?
I’m a real gel girl! I’ve never really got on well with Acrylic nails plus I believe they are much more damaging than gels. I love soak off gels, they are flexible yet strong and come in a huge range of colours.
How can false nail users/brides-to-be keep their nails in tiptop condition?
It’s important to follow any aftercare given to you by your nail technician. My personal advice would be to always wear gloves when washing up or cleaning.
Have you got any tips to achieving flawless, chip-free nail colour?
Painting your nails in the correct way makes all the difference. One base coat, two layers of colour and a good topcoat. I recommend Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat if you want that super glossy professional look. My personal tip is to always paint the tip of your nail as well to lock it around your nail.
What would your advice be for someone wanting to work as a nail technician?
Shop around for the right course for you! There are so many different ones available. From one day courses to one year long. You can do a NVQ qualification or product accredited course.
