Getting Married Abroad – Beauty Essentials

Wedding Abroad Beauty

If you’ve chosen to head to sunnier climes to have your wedding perhaps on the beach or in hotel gardens, you will need to choose your beauty products wisely to ensure that your makeup stays looking flawless all day long and doesn’t melt in the heat, while also protecting you from the sun! Here are some of the makeup artist approved products we’d recommend brides-to-be put on their shopping list before jetting off for their wedding, or honeymoon, to ensure they can easily and flawlessly create perfect-looking, long-lasting, heat-withstanding, sun-protecting wedding makeup!

Sun Protection

First things first, you need to protect your skin as you won’t want to have sun burn and peeling on your big day. Sun protection is important in the days and weeks leading up to your wedding as well as on the day itself. If you like to have a tan build one up gradually and safely to protect your skin. Use a sun protection cream with a high factor for the first few days, such as SPF 30, and then go onto a lower factor.

If you wish to stay completely tan-free use a strong SPF 50 product such as Avene’s Ultra Light Hydrating Sunscreen SPF 50 ($24) in the lead up to your wedding.

Exfoliate and Moisturize Body

You should also exfoliate regularly when gradual tanning to remove dead skin cells and improve your tan. For something a bit special, we recommend Majestic Pure’s 24K Gold Scrub ($17.50), which has been expertly formulated to moisturize and intensively nourish skin; made with real gold foil which was highly used in anti-aging skincare products.

Follow with an intensive moisturizer, we love using a natural oil based formula such as nutrient-rich jojoba oil, macadamia oil or sweet almond oil for intensive hydration. Natural oils absorb particularly well into the skin (rather than sitting on the surface), since they have a similar molecular structure to our own natural body oil (sebum), and so can be highly effective. that extra special glow. LALICIOUS – The Golden Oil – Shimmering Marula, Macadamia & Coconut Beauty Oil ($44) would be our pick for something a little extra special for your big day, which gives a gorgeous golden glow to skin, continuing the gold theme!

With all that tanning be sure to exfoliate your face too to create an even makeup base. We’d highly recommend Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting Exfoliant ($29) which is very effective and great for all skin types. Containing 2% BHA (Beta hydroxy acid) it helps to unclog and diminish enlarged pores, exfoliate dead skin cells, smooth wrinkles, brighten and even out skin tone. It improves skin’s texture and leaves it looking youthful and radiant.

Even in hot weather it is important to moisturize. On the day itself, you will want a light, non-oily light-weight moisturizer; such as LATHER Ultra Light Face Lotion ($23) or, for a real luminous glow, Shu Uemura Stage Performer Instant Glow Pore Perfecting Cream ($59) is fantastic at transforming even the dullest of complexions and will conceal pores, even in balmy temperatures.

MAC’s Prep+Prime SPF 50 oil-free primer ($31) is an excellent product which keeps makeup in place while protecting skin from the sun so even better for those with very pale skin who wish to maintain the English Rose look.

We love Bare Minerals Pure Brightening Serum Foundation ($29) which gives radiant natural coverage and also has the added benefit of SPF20 (so you may not need to wear extra sunscreen on the wedding day). It’s silky soft texture glides on for easy coverage.
