Bold Lipstick Trend – Application Tips

Bold Lipstick

The thought of bold lipstick is enough to make some people run for the hills and hold on for dear life to their safe lip gloss. Do they not know that this summer’s biggest trend is bright bold lips?

I know the upkeep can be hard work, but that’s only when not applied correctly. Beautiful lips are as easy as 1 2 3…4 Follow these simple steps for how to apply lipstick perfectly and get beautiful lips.

Lips are hard to maintain in the winter since they can be chapped, and in the summer as they can be dry. Before you start to apply your makeup take a little extra time to apply a lip balm. I love Burt’s Bees Lip Balm – it has a beautiful texture and comes in a variety of flavors such as berry or mango and, furthermore, it works wonders in a small amount of time.

While applying your foundation run it over your lips to mute down your natural lip pigment, this will prevent the natural pinks in your lips changing the tone of the lipstick and help it stay true to its color. This also helps to prevent the lipstick from ‘bleeding’.

Draw A Line

When people hear the words lip liner you can’t blame them for thinking of the old school dark liner and pale pink lipstick, but believe me it is a step you do not want to miss. When applying you should shade in all of your lips taking extra care around the cupids bow. The liner should be the same color as your chosen lipstick or as close as you can find.

Lip liner prevents ‘bleeding’ and acts as a base for your lipstick. It will take a lot of eating and drinking to remove! Since lip liners contain wax they are waterproof to an extent, and once your lipstick has worn off you will still have color on your lips.

Brush Up

For precision lips use a lip brush; the tapered edge is ideal to fill in cupids bows and create perfectly even lips. Load up your brush and apply your lipstick over the lip liner being careful not to stray outside the lines. Once applied, blot off excess lipstick with a tissue and re-apply another layer, layering thin layers of products prevents caking and helps the product last longer.

If you prefer matt lips skip this step, but, if you want to add more dimension and create the illusion of fuller lips, add a touch of gloss to the center of your lips and blend out. You don’t need to find a gloss the same color as your lipstick as a clear gloss will work fine, but adding gloss will mean you need to touch up your lipstick more regularly.

Lastly, check you don’t have lipstick on your teeth and then pucker up and enjoy having a perfect pout!
