bareMinerals by Bare Escentuals have launched Matte SPF 15 Foundation. It is a mineral powder foundation infused with RareMinerals ActiveSoil Complex. bareMinerals say that the foundation gives a natural matte finish which lasts all day.
Who’s it for
As the foundation is designed to absorb excess oil and eliminate shine without drying out the skin, it is recommended for combination and oily skins, wanting a foundation which will work to improve skin’s health and overall appearance too. It is a very light foundation to provide a barely there natural look.
Being a mineral foundation, its aim is to deliver skin care benefits to the skin over time. The RareMinerals ActiveSoil Complex minimizes the appearance of pores and promotes cell turnover for improved clarity and condition. Infused with potent anti-oxidants it protects the skin from environmental assaults such as pollution and air conditioning. While its SPF 15 broad spectrum UVA/UVB protects the skin from UV rays. bareMinerals pride themselves in using only naturally derived high-quality ingredients, free from chemicals and preservatives.
An independent consumer study for this mineral powder resulted in 87% of women seeing a reduction in the appearance of open pores; 86% of women seeing an improvement in skin clarity; and 89% women found the foundation to reduce shine throughout the day.
The powder foundation should be applied with a powder brush in circular motions. The application can be built up from a light to medium coverage. It is very easy to apply.
On application skin looks flawless and open pores have been concealed. Skin tone looks even and radiant. Skin feels healthy and is positively glowing straight away. All in all, the foundation gives a lovely natural finish.
The appearance of shine is instantly eliminated on application, and yes we found that the powder did prevent oil from returning for up to 6 hours.
We found the staying power of the foundation to be very good, but even better when applied under a moisturiser. Its easily portable container means you can touch it up throughout the day.
If you have combination skin ensure that you exfoliate and moisturise your skin before use to prevent the powder sitting on flaky skin. As the powder is so good at absorbing oil, combination skins may find it a little drying. Concealer is still needed to conceal spots or dark circles and should be applied first.
If you usually use a liquid foundation with a powder on top for a full-coverage look, you could lightly use bareMinerals Matte as the powder (even though it is a complete foundation) since it provides a great finish.
Price and packaging
Priced at £25, the foundation is available at Bare Escentuals Boutiques, and selected department stores including Debenhams and House Of Fraser.
The powder comes in a circular tub with an innovative Click, Lock, Go sifter which prevents spills and enables easy portability. The packaging is simple, fresh and appealing.
The powder comes in 15 shades from Fair to Golden Deep for all skin tones.
We particularly like this foundation because of its skin loving ingredients which help to improve skin’s condition while providing a good makeup coverage. We would definitely recommend this foundation to people with oily skin looking for a natural and radiant finish, and those wanting a makeup which will improve and not irritate their skin’s condition. We also love the great range of shades the mineral powder comes in, which are all very flattering.
